Friedrich Herman Eversmeyer, called Herman, son of Johann Heinrich
Eversmeyer, born in Prussia (probably Kappeln, Schleswig-Holstein) 4 Jan
1836, died 2 Sep 1910 in Sully Co, South Dakota. He was buried in
Okobojo Cem, Grave 1, Lot 23, no marker, in Okobojo, Sully Co, South
Dakota. The cemetery list erroneously says he died in 1912.
Herman married Margaretha Bettschnitt 22 Apr 1877 in St. Siebald,
Clayton Co, Iowa. It was the second marriage for both; he was a
widower and she was a widow. Margaretha was born 6 Aug 1832
in Oedenreuth near Nurnberg, Bavaria, Germany, daughter of Unknown and
Anna Elizabeth Bettschnitt. She married 1st 7 Aug 1856 in Dubuque
Co, Iowa to Johann Jacob 'Jake' Weischedel. Jake was born 26
Jan 1828 in Feuerbach, Germany, died 9 Mar 1869 in St. Siebald, Clayton
Co, Iowa. Margaretha immigrated in 1855 and Jake immigrated
in 1854. Herman immigrated in 1863 and was naturalized in Pierre,
South Dakota. Herman and Margaretha first lived in Iowa and were
both members of the St.Siebald (Lutheran) Church. In 1892 they
moved to Pearl Twp, Sully Co, South Dakota. Before 1903 they
separated and Margaretha went to live with relatives.
Herman had a son by his previous marriage, Johann Heinrich 'Henry'
Eversmeyer, born 23 May 1862 in Germany, died 1938 in Onida, Sully Co,
South Dakota. Henry moved from St. Siebald, Iowa in 1885
to live in Sully Co, South Dakota. Henry was unmarried.
