MINNIETTA
My brother's daughter came to town,
She goes to college and travels around.
With the school Choir, or one of those things,
That goes to different towns and sings.
Lucille said the paper states,
That Onida's included in one of these dates.
So let's be sure and don't forgot,
So we can go listen to Minniett.
I thought it won't make much difference if we didn't or did,
'Cause chances are we won't know the kid.
And why should we go to all that fuss,
When probably she wouldn't remember us.
But just the minute I saw her face,
I think I'd a knew her any place.
Pretty good lookin', tall and slim,
Put me in mind a lot of him.
When he was always on the go,
Back about thirty years or so.
And you should heard the way she sang,
The best darn one in the whole shebang.
Then us three went down and et,
Me and Lucy and Minniett.
If you ask me she's a little witty,
And Just as nice as she is pretty.
I think that evening was pretty well spent,
And I'll always be glad to think I went.
And what I'm sayin' isn't bunk,
She made a hit with her Aunt and Unk.
REPLY FROM BROTHER GEORGE
Thanks for your rhyme about the kid,
She wrote about some of the things she did.
When she and the group from D. W. U.
Stopped at Onida and sang for you.
She said you really treated her swell,
Fed her the best and wished her well.
And when the group was ready to leave,
A 20 slipped from under your sleeve.
As you took her hand in a farewell grip,
With "a lot of Luck" on your New York trip.
The group reached Rapid, tired but gay,
And found a room for their overnight stay.
She called brother Bill on the telephone,
But all poor Willie could do was groan.
He'd been fighting hard with semester tests,
Had had no sleep, just occasional rests.
So worn and pooped was this lanky cuss,
He had no idea who his sister was.
She filled him in with her rank and name,
Then "sky happy" Billy blushed with shame.
He invited her and one of her friends,
Out for a meal and to make amends.
I guess they really had a "ball",
Laughing and joking about it all.
