TOO SOON OLD AND TOO LATE SMART
When I was young, strong and slim,
Full of fight, vigor and vim.
I worked hard and spent my pay,
And never saved for a rainy day.
I thought there's time to get a start,
But I'm too soon old and too late smart.
I never thought as the years rolled on,
That the ones behind were dead and gone.
And I never thought there would come a day,
When I'd wish for the money I threw away.
Guess I didn't do my part,
Too soon old and too late smart.
Some folks said I should settle down,
There would always be some one to paint the town,
But I was going with girls and buying cars,
Drinking booze and smoking cigars,
I sure Upset the apple cart,
I'm too soon old and too late smart.
But I've had fun as you can see,
lived longer than folks that's older than me,
Guess there will always be work to do,
I don't like it but I know it's true.
Got a smile on my face,
And a song in my heart.
Just too soon old and too late smart.
