THE GIRLS THAT DRESS IN WHITE
Here at St. Mary's Hospital
Where I quietly convalesce.
I hear quick padded foot steps
And the swish of a nurse's dress.
The girls that keep their tireless watch
Throughout the lonely night.
And watch for the gleam of a beacon
Are the girls that dress in white.
They know when a patient is resting
They hear every moan and sigh.
They carry out doctor's orders
As the hours drag slowly by.
They go to the patient's bedside
They are courteous, kind and polite.
Patrolling the. dim lit hallways
Are the girls that dress in white.
My stay at the hospital is over
I'm home but I must confess.
There are times I listen for footsteps
And the swish of a nurse's 'dress.
I know down there at St. Mary's
On duty this Very night.
Who waits for the gleam of a beacon
Is a girl that's dressed in white.
