#42

THE LIGHT ACROSS THE STREET

Now that the moving is finished
The family has settled down,
And getting used to living
In another part of town.
The friends you left are watching
And things aren't quite complete.
We miss your light in the window
In the house 'across the street.

It seems we'll always miss you
Old friends that are tried and true,
And anyone else that lives there
Won't take the place of you.
The old place looks' deserted
'Tho the lawn is green and neat.
We miss the light in the window
In the house across the street.

Holidays and Sundays
We didn't have much to do.
We'd gather in for a coffee break
And spin a yarn or two.
Some how old friends seem the best
And the new ones don't quite compete.
We miss the light in the window
In the house across the street.

And now old friends and neighbors
As the time moves swiftly on.
We chat with the friends that are with us
And think of the ones that are gone.
We wait in the dusk of the evening
To stand our last retreat.
And watch for the light in the window
In the house across the street.
