A TOAST TO A RETIRING SHERIFF
He'll soon round out another year,
We lose a sheriff both fond and dear.
In civic life or army camp,
Retires an undefeated champ.
In Sixty-one he will step down,
And hand another sheriff the crown.
The next two years sheriff Harvey Main,
Will listen to the town complain.
You've done a job, we know it Jack,
And if you'd run we'd put you back.
You made decisions 'sound and fair,
To us somehow you seemed to care.
When other people flipped their lids,
You seemed to understand the kids.
When law enforcement for you ends,
You'll check out with a lot of friends.
Through-out the years you've been true blue,
You did the things you had to do.
Always when the poor or needy,
Needed help they came to Reedy.
Country farm-house or in town,
Seems you never turned them down.
Always tried to understand,
Always lent a helping hand.
Guess no matter what you do,
Folks like us will count on you.
That is why we'd take you back,
'Cause you did a good job, Jack.
